Travelling to Greece is Only one VAC away for Chinese

Recently, GVCW from Greece held a ceremony in Shanghai to celebrate the opening of 15 visa application centers (VAC) across China. Mr. Vasilis Xiros, the Greek Consul General in Shanghai, together with Mr. Eleftherios Oikonomou, the President of GVCW, Mr. Dimitris Platis, the CEO of GVCW, the GVCW’s partners in China and representatives from the Shanghai-based travel agencies were at the ceremony to offer their congratulations.

Mr. Xiros expressed his hope at the ceremony that the VAC would become the first way point for the Chinese tourists traveling to Greece and provide the best and most efficient services possible for the visa applicants. The Consulate General will further expedite its visa processing procedures to make sure that applicants can proceed with their travel itinerary as planned.

Mr. Eleftherios Oikonomou regarded Greece as a unique and critical pivot in the One Belt One Road blueprint, the gateway to Europe. As an ancient civilization, he said, Greece is exceptional and rich in cultural and natural heritage. Last year, nearly 100,000 Chinese tourists visited Greece and the number is still rising. He expects that the number of Chinese visitors to Greece would increase to one million in the near future, out of the 100 million outbound tourists in total. Tourism is one of the pillars of the Greek economy and the Greek consular authorities will further simplify visa application procedures to facilitate entry to Greece. In addition, the Greek government has introduced a Golden Visa program which would grant foreigners permanent residence if they purchase properties in Greece valued over 250,000 euros.

It is noteworthy that Mr. Eleftherios Oikonomou, a former Minister of Public Order and Chief of National Police, played a central role in assisting the evacuation of 13,185 Chinese citizen from Libya via Greece in 2011. He expressed his commitment to more contribution to foster the Greek -Chinese bilateral relations and friendship in his new capacity.

Greek Global Visa Center World opens in China

On June 5th 2018, GVCW (Global Visa Center World) held the inauguration event for the Visa Application Center in Shanghai. More than 50 people attended. Among them were Mr. Vassilis Xiros - Consul General of Greece in Shanghai, Mr. Eleftherios Oikonomou - Chairman of GVCW, Mr. Dimitris Platis - Chief Executive Officer of GVCW, partners, people in charge of main outbound travel agencies in Shanghai and related media.

The Consul General Vassilis Xiros warmly congratulated GVCW on its opening in China and hoped to take the Visa Application Centers as the first step towards high quality and efficient services for Chinese citizens who wish to travel to Greece. In addition, the Consulate will accelerate the process of visa approval to make sure the applicants can depart on time.

During his speech, the chairman of GVCW, Mr. Eleftherios Oikonomou said that an important determinant of the establishment of a visa service agency in China is President Xi’s magnificent vision of the One Belt and One Road initiative. Greece is an important and unique hub in the One Belt and One Road initiative as it is the gateway to Europe. Greece had been chosen by the Chinese government as a premier partner in Europe the same way COSCO transformed Piraeus into Europe’s largest receiving port of Chinese products. The 15 Visa Application Centers for Greece in China, opened by GVCW, will be dedicated to increasing the number of Chinese tourists who visit Greece and providing high quality services.
